TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Bowie Baysox will meet in game two of a three-game series...Roger Kieschnick's two-out, two-run homer in the top of the fifth inning was the lone hit for the Flying Squirrels as Richmond dropped the series opener to the Baysox 4-2 on Tuesday night in front of 1,615 fans at Prince George's Stadium.
TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Left-hander Clayton Tanner gets the start in game two of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Making his 10th start of the season...Enters the season rated as the #30 prospect in the Giants farm system according to Baseball America...Suffered the loss in his last outing 5/27 at Akron...Allowed eight runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings...Struck out three batters and walked three...Eight runs allowed was a career high and season high for a Flying Squirrels pitcher...Allowed six runs in the fourth inning (0.1 IP)...Recorded four flyouts/popouts and three groundouts...Retired the leadoff batter in three of his four innings on the mound...Threw 74 pitches, 48 strikes...Threw 17 pitches or more in three of his four innings on the mound...Threw first-pitch strikes to 12 of the 20 batters he faced...Outing was his shortest of the season and matched the shortest outing by a Flying Squirrels starter (Tom Vessella x2)...Second time in nine starts he failed to go more than four innings...Went four innings or less six times in 27 starts in 2010...Has allowed seven first-inning runs over his last four starts (15 runs total)...Has averaged 2.44 runs of support (22R/9GS)...Club has scored two runs or less in five of his nine starts...Spent the entire 2010 season with Richmond and went 9-9 with a 3.68 ERA in 27 starts...Struck out 79 batters and walked 64 in 149 innings...Named an Eastern League Mid-Season All-Star, but did not pitch in the game...Finished the season ninth in the EL in ERA...Member of the San Francisco Giants 40-man roster...Selected in the 3rd round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.

NO ONE-HIT WONDERS: The Flying Squirrels had a season-low one hit in last night's 4-2 loss to Bowie...It was the second time in the two-year history of the franchise that club was one-hit...The other time occurred 4/25/10 at Reading when Phillippe Aumont, Chance Chapman, and Michael Schwimer combined on a one-hit, 2-0 shutout...Richmond's previous season-low in hits was three, which occurred three times, most recently 5/9 at Bowie.
ERROR ALERT: The Flying Squirrels have committed an error in each of their last nine games, the longest streak of games with an error on the season for the club...Richmond has committed 19 errors over its last nine games including a season-high four errors 5/23 against Erie...The 19 errors have led to eight unearned runs...The Flying Squirrels are tied for sixth in the Eastern League with a .976 fielding percentage and the team has committed 47 errors on the season, third-most in the league...Overall, the club has allowed 30 unearned runs on the season.
HERE'S THE CATCH: For the season, opponents have stolen 41 bases in 51 tries against catcher Johnny Monell, the third-most stolen bases against a catcher in the Eastern League...The 25-year-old's .196 percentage throwing out runners is second-lowest in the league among catchers with at least 19 attempts...Richmond's other catcher, Aaron Lowenstein, has throw out 14 of the 19 base runners who have attempted to steal against him...His .737 percentage is the most among catchers with at least 19 attempts...In addition, Flying Squirrels pitchers have picked off 11 runners on base, including one last night by Daryl Maday.
MAY IS FOR MATOS: Right-hander Osiris Matos allowed one hit over three scoreless innings Saturday night...In nine appearances this month, the 26-year-old has tossed 18 scoreless innings, limiting opponents to a .133 (8-for-60) batting average against...It is the longest scoreless innings streak by a Richmond pitcher this season...He has struck out 11 batters while walking two over that span and has lowered his ERA from 5.02 to 2.23.
PITCHING IN: The Flying Squirrels pitching staff leads the Eastern League with a 2.82 ERA through 51 games, the only staff with a sub-three ERA...The club ranks second in the league with 413 strikeouts, and the pitching staff has logged a league-high 472 1/3 innings of work.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN: The Flying Squirrels are in a stretch where they will play 13 of 16 games on the road...The club is 7-17 on the road, and it is batting .194 (154-for-795) and averaging 2.83 runs per game (68R/24G) in 24 road contests...Richmond just completed a stretch of playing 10 out of 13 games at home...The Flying Squirrels are 17-10 at home and are batting .253 (237-for-938) in 27 games at The Diamond while averaging 4.30 runs per game at home (116R/27G).
