Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder (32-20) used a four-run bottom of the sixth to come from behind and grab a 7-3 victory against the Altoona Curve (27-25) Wednesday afternoon in front of 6,837 fans at Waterfront Park. Cody Johnson continued his recent surge at the plate with a three-run homerun, his fourth in six games, and Austin Romine drove in his team-leading 31st run. Knotting the three-game series up at one apiece, Trenton now has an opportunity to win a series Thursday for the ninth time in ten tries dating back to late April.

The two teams traded runs through the first five frames, and because of a Bradley Suttle RBI-groundout and an Addison Maruszak sacrifice fly, the game was tied 2-2 at the end of five innings. Thunder starter Manny Banuelos, making his tenth start of 2011, was only able to last five innings, giving up just one earned run on four strikeouts. The Yankees top left-handed pitching prospect received his eighth no decision of 2011.

In the bottom of the sixth, Trenton was able to use the momentum gained from reliever Cory Arbiso's escape from a bases loaded, one out jam in the top half of the sixth. Austin Romine gave the Thunder their first lead of the series with his one out single to left field to score Jose Pirela. Them, two batters later with runners at first and second, Cody Johnson connected for his tenth homerun of the year to extend Trenton's lead to 6-2.

The Thunder held serve over the final three frames and won the contest 7-3, making it the first time since Sunday, May 22 (a 6-1 win over Portland), that the Thunder have participated in game that has been decided by more than three runs.

The Thunder will wrap-up their three-game series at Waterfront Park with the Altoona Curve Thursday night at 7:05 PM. LHP Kei Igawa (2-1, 3.82) will get the start for Trenton, while Altoona will counter with LHP Jeff Locke (3-5, 5.33). Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 6:45 PM.

Thursday night is a Thirsty Thursday at Waterfront Park presented by Budweiser and WPST. Fans will be able to enjoy $2 Bud and Bud Lights from the time gates open until the middle of the fifth inning. Then, fans can look forward to postgame fireworks!
