'Wolves Blast Three Homers in 16 Inning Victory

The SeaWolves prevailed in one of the longest games in team history as they took down the Binghamton Mets 9-6 in 16 innings at NYSEG Stadium

Erie jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Binghamton starter Gabriel Ynoa. Jamie Johnson sent a comebacker to the mound that hit Ynoa and beat it out for an infield single. Jason Krizan followed with a bloop single to left putting two on base. With one out, Steven Moya worked a 3-2 count and belted his 19th home run of the season over the wall in right for a 3-0 lead.

The Mets got on the board in the second against Erie starter Jeff Ferrell when Brandon Nimmo belted a solo home run making it 3-1.

In the third, Moya doubled and scored on a Ramon Cabrera single for a 4-1 lead. In the sixth, Cabrera single and eventually scored on a Dixon Machado sacrifice fly to center for a 5-1 lead.

Binghamton cut into the lead in the sixth. Dilson Herrera singled with one out and Dustin Lawley walked with two outs putting a pair on for Jayce Boyd. Boyd singled home Herrera making it 5-2. Nimmo followed with a two-run double, cutting the Erie lead down to a run at 5-4.

In the seventh, the Mets tied the game against reliever Will Startup. With one out, Xorge Carrillo was hit by a pitch. He moved to second on walk and scored on a Brian Burgamy knock, making it 5-5.

The game remained tied until the top of the 10th inning when Moya belted his second home run of the game and 20th of the season making it 6-5. Moya is now one of 19 SeaWolves to hit 20 or more home runs in a single season. Erie has had a 20-homer batter in three consecutive seasons.

Lawley send the game deeper into the Binghamton night as he homered off of Angel Nesbitt in the last of the 10th, making it 6-6.

The teams went scoreless for the next five innings sending the game to the 16th. Aaron Westlake led off and blasted a solo home run to straight away center for a 7-6 Erie lead. It was Westlake's first long ball since May 29 at Harrisburg. Machado followed with a double and he scored on a Johnson knock for an 8-6 lead. Krizan followed and hit into a fielder's choice with Johnson being retired at second. Devon Travis followed and snapped an 0-for-7 night at the plate as he singled home Krizan for a 9-6 lead.

The Mets loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 16th but Jose Valdez worked out of it, preserving the win, earning his 12th save.

Ryan Robowski (4-0) worked a season-high four innings of shutout relief with three walks while equaling a season-high with six strikeouts in the win.

Ferrell took the no-decision allowing four runs on four hits with a walk and a season-high eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings. It was his highest strikeout total since he struck out nine on July 24, 2013.

It was the longest game for the SeaWolves since August 2, 2012 at New Hampshire when the 'Wolves took down the Fisher Cats 9-7 in 17 innings. Tonight's winning pitcher Robowski also appeared in that game.
