Big First Inning Pilots Curve to Fourth Straight Win

CURVE, Pa. - A five-run first inning helped guide the Curve to a fourth-straight win on Saturday night as they downed the Senators, 7-2, in front of 4,613 at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Keon Broxton was 2-for-4 with a double, homer and three RBI. With the win, the Curve have also won seven straight games against Harrisburg.
Harrisburg scored the first run of the game but it was the Curve who made the most noise in the first inning, which has been the most profitable inning run wise for the Curve all season. For the second time this week Alen Hanson led off the game with a homer, this time he did it in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at one.
It was only the beginning for the Curve offense as they'd go on to send eight more men to the plate and score four more runs to open up a, 5-1, lead. Drew Maggi and Elias Diaz both singled back-to-back before Matt Curry grounded into a double play. With Maggi at third, Stetson Allie walked to put runners on the corners with two outs for Willy Garcia.
Garcia reached on a throwing error by Matt Skole that allowed Maggi to score and Allie to move to third. Broxton doubled them both home and moved to third on the throw to put the Curve up, 4-1. Kelson Brown followed with a single to score Broxton for the inning's fifth and final run.
The Curve added two more in the bottom of the fourth thanks to Broxton's solo homer and a RBI fielder's choice by Diaz.
Montero (3-3) tossed a career-high six innings in the win on Saturday and allowed just the one run. He struck out three and walked one. Harrisburg scored three times in the seventh to pull closer but the Curve bullpen held the line to preserve the win. Jason Townsend tossed the final 1.1 innings for his first save since coming back to Curve, Pa.
Broxton, Brown, Hanson and Maggi all had multi-hit games in the team's fourth-straight win. Diaz finished the game 1-for-4 to run his hitting streak to a personal season-high tying six games.
Altoona (33-54) will aim to sweep the Senators (33-53) in the 6 p.m. series finale Sunday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Postgame Fireworks will follow the game with the Senators on what is also a FREE Ritchey's Dairy Curve Kids' Club Game. Prior to the game, fans can come play catch on the field from 5-5:25 p.m. and after the game kids can run the bases.
On the hill for the Curve in the finale will be LHP Joely Rodriguez (4-7, 4.38). He'll be opposed by RHP Brian Dupra (1-3, 5.04) for the Senators.
