Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
Hagerstown, Md. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (3-9) put together a complete effort and took down the Hagerstown Suns (6-6) 5-1 Monday night at Municipal Stadium. The win marks the first time in 2013 that the BlueClaws have won back-to-back games.
With the game tied at 1-1 in the 7th, it was the heart of the order that put the 'Claws in front for good. Brian Pointer led off the inning by getting hit by a Dixon Anderson pitch putting a man on for the red-hot Art Charles. The big first-baseman followed Pointer with a two-run home run to center that put Lakewood in front for good.
The BlueClaws tacked on two more for insurance in the ninth. Carlos Tocci put a ball in play with the bases loaded and reached when the shortstop Hunter Bailey threw it away. Pointer and Charles scored on the play, which featured another error by the first baseman.
Lakewood got off on the right foot and jumped out in front of the Suns in the second inning. Art Charles collected another double to leadoff the frame and moved to third on a wild pitch with Mitch Walding at the plate. Walding followed with an RBI groundout that scored Charles and gave Lakewood an early 1-0 lead.
Hagerstown tied the game with one out in the fourth. Mike McQuillan and Estarlin Martinez had back-to-back extra-base hits to plate the lone run for the Suns.
Josh Warner took the hill for the BlueClaws and put forth his best effort of the season. He allowed the one run in his six innings on just three hits. The only blemish on his line was the four walks he issued. Warner (1-1) added three strikeouts in the win and was backed up by Delvi Francisco and Steven Inch who pitched the final three innings in scoreless fashion.
Anderson (1-1) rebounded from allowing the run in the second and had a stretch where he retired 14 hitters in a row before hitting Pointer to begin the seventh. He pitched six and two-thirds and allowed three runs on three hits; he did not walk a batter and struck out nine.
