(AUGUSTA, Ga.) The Augusta GreenJackets took the lead with three runs in the fifth inning and added three more in the sixth on their way to a 7-3 win over the Lexington Legends Monday night.
After Augusta scored a run in the first inning, the Legends claimed the lead with two runs in the fifth.
With one out, Ethan Chapman and Yowill Espinal drew walks from Augusta starter Jose Reyes. Raul Mondesi grounded to first, but Chapman beat first baseman Ben Turner's throw to second, loading the bases. Humberto Arteaga hit a ground ball to shortstop Matt Duffy, who threw to second to force Mondesi at second, but Trevor Brown's throw to first sailed high, and Espinal followed Chapman across the plate to give the Legends a 2-1 lead.
Augusta answered in the bottom of the fifth. A single by Andrew Cain and walks to Tyler Hollick and Jesus Galindo loaded the bases with no outs. After Ali Williams relieved Lexington starter Aroni Nina, Travious
Relaford singled, scoring Cain and Hollick and putting Augusta in front 3-2. Another run scored as Duffy grounded into a double play.
With one out in the bottom of the sixth, consecutive doubles by Brown, Eric Sim and Cain produced two runs. Hollick's bunt single moved Cain to third, and Cain scored when Williams threw past first for an error on a pickoff attempt, giving the GreenJackets a 7-2 margin.
The Legends added a run in the ninth when Terrance Gore singled, moved to second on defensive indifference and scored on a base hit by Mondesi.
