Winterhawks Rout Tri-City 9-2 in Return from Holiday Break

Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - Jack O'Brien scored twice, Gabe Klassen netted a career-high five points and Dante Giannuzzi turned aside 25 shots as the Winterhawks roared past the Americans 9-2 at the VMC on Tuesday evening.
Eight different Winterhawks scored in the route and the Hawks scored a season-high nine goals, striking in all three periods.
O'Brien got the scoring started midway through the opening frame with a power play, wraparound tally for his fourth of the year, but Tri-City responded two minutes later with a Connor Bouchard marker to knot the score at one apiece. Tyson Kozak restored the Hawks' lead a few minutes after that with a deflection of a Clay Hanus shot from the point.
O'Brien and Jonah Bevington then kicked off the second period with a bang, each finding twine in the opening 47 seconds to boost Portland's advantage to a 4-1 lead. Less than seven minutes later, Ryan McCleary made it 5-1 Winterhawks with a slap shot from the right circle, and the rout was on.
Gabe Klassen, Aidan Litke, Marek Alscher and Marcus Nguyen capped off Portland's rampant scoring, with Petr Moravec interrupting to grab Tri-City's second of the game midway through the frame.
Giannuzzi's 25 saves earned him a sixth win in his last seven starts, while Tri-City's Nick Avakyan put on a gutsy showing with 31 saves on 40 shots for the visitors. The two teams face off once more in Kennewick on Wednesday night for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop.
