
Hurricanes Acquire Player and Pick for Boyko

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club acquired 2004-born forward Hayden Smith and a third- round draft pick in the 2025 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for 2002- born forward Noah Boyko.
Smith, 17, was originally a second-round draft pick by the Blades (24th overall) in the 2019 WHL draft. The Chetwynd, British Columbia product has appeared in 25 games this season with Saskatoon going pointless with six penalty minutes.
The 6'0, 180-pound forward collected 24 points (9g-15a) along with six penalty minutes in 2019-2020 with the Yales Hockey Academy U18 Prep team while adding one goal in two post-season games.
In his WHL draft season, Smith racked up 47 points, including 24 goals and 10 penalty minutes, in just 30 games with the Yale Hockey U15 Prep team where he finished first in team scoring. The left-hand shot forward added a team-high five points (3g-2a) in five playoff games this season for Yale.
Boyko, 19, was selected by the Hurricanes in the first round (16th overall) in the 2017 WHL draft. He skated in 155 career games with the Hurricanes amassing 71 points (38g-33a) along with 50 penalty minutes, including 17 points (11g-6a) in 27 games this season for the 'Canes.
The Hurricanes continue their second half on Saturday when they visit the Calgary Hitmen at 2:00pm on Scotiabank Saddledome to ring in 2022 before welcoming the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday afternoon at the ENMAX Centre.
