
Americans Battle Through Tough Loss in Portland

Tri-City Americans News Release
The Americans returned to play tonight as they matched up against the Winterhawks in Portland. After winning back-to-back games before the Christmas break, the Americans ended their streak tonight with a 9-2 loss.
Portland opened scoring 11:14 into the game with a power play goal from Jack O'Brien.
Less than two minutes later, the Americans tied the game with a power play goal as Connor Bouchard shoved in a rebound off a shot from Sam Huo. Petr Moravec also received an assist on the goal.
Tyson Kozak quickly responded for the Winterhawks with a third straight power play goal. Portland held a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Jack O'Brien scored for Portland just 35 seconds into the second frame. Jonah Bevington extended the Winterhawks lead to 4-1 with another goal 17 seconds later. Ryan McCleary netted one last second period goal with 13 minutes remaining in the period.
The Americans trailed 5-1 heading into the final frame.
Portland continued scoring as they added third period goals from Gabe Klassen, Aidan Litke, and Marek Alscher.
The Americans were finally able to respond as Petr Moravec scored with a wrist shot from the blue line on a delayed penalty. Moravec is on a three game point streak with two goals and two assists over that period.
Nick Avakyan played the full game in net, stopping 31 of 40 shots faced.
The Americans will get a rematch against the Winterhawks tomorrow as they finish a home-and-home set at the Toyota Center.
