The Portland Winterhawks (11-10-0-0) fell 5-2 to the Seattle Thunderbirds (15-6-1-0) Saturday in a road contest.

The Thunderbirds opened the scoring 7:58 into the first on a goal by Mathew Barzal, but Paul Bittner got it back at the 15:44 mark when he batted down a midair pass from Caleb Jones and put it past Seattle netminder Logan Flodell to tie it up at 1-1 heading into the second.

Seattle's Donovan Neuls scored a power play marker with 3:38 left in the second, and 31 seconds later with both teams at full strength, Jamal Watson scored to extend the Thunderbirds' lead, making it 3-1 going into the third.

Just 32 seconds into the third, with the Hawks on the power play, Paul Bittner scored to cut the deficit to 3-2. Seattle then made it a two-goal game when Nick Holowko scored at 2:40, and 1:47 later Matthew Wedman scored to make it 5-2.

The Hawks kept up the pressure, but the Thunderbirds came away with the win.

Portland was 1-6 on the power play, and 3-4 on the penalty kill.

The Hawks are back in action Wednesday when they take on the Moose Jaw Warriors Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
