HILLCATS SURGE PAST DASH SUNDAY

Lynchburg's six-run eighth inning propelled the Hillcats past Winston-Salem 8-3 in Sunday's rubber match at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash took their first lead of the game in the seventh, but it proved to be short-lived. With the bases loaded and two down in the eighth, Euclides Leyer plunked Yhoxian Medina to tie the game. Michael Ynoareplaced Leyer and gave up a grand slam to LeVon Washington and a solo homer to Clint Frazier. All six runs in the eighth came with two outs and were unearned due to a Trey Michalczewski throwing error.

STILL A HAPPY HOMESTAND

Despite dropping the final two games of their series with Lynchburg, the Dash recorded their second straight 4-2 homestand. Offensively, the Dash bashed six home runs after clubbing just 33 in their first 102 contests. Winston-Salem rode a season-best six-game winning streak until Saturday's 10-9 loss, a game that Winston trailed 10-0 through five frames.

RED HOT AT THE TOP

The Dash's typical top two hitters have been on fire as of late. Eddy Alvarez, who went 2-for-3 with his second High-A home run on Sunday, is 7-for-15 (.467) with two homers, six RBIs and six runs scored in the last four games. In his first 11 games with Winston, Alvarez is hitting .389 (14-for-36) with two homers, eight RBIs and 10 runs. Adam Engel, who missed just his second game all year Sunday, has matched a season-best with an eight-game hit streak, during which he is 10-for-29 (.345) with eight runs. Engel (48) and Alvarez (46) are fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Minor Leagues in stolen bases.

SOME ROSTER MOVES

Three roster moves have taken place since Sunday's loss. Former Appalachian State star Jeremy Dowdy has been promoted to Double-A Birmingham. Fellow catcher Sean O'Connell has been activated from the disabled list. Righty Yency Almonte has joined the Dash from Low-A Kannapolis, where he was 8-4 with a 3.88 ERA.

FULMER RETURNS TO MOUND TUESDAY

Right-hander Carson Fulmer, the White Sox first-round pick this year, will make his third High-A and fourth Minor League start Tuesday. After logging two scoreless innings in his Dash debut on July 23 at Carolina, Fulmer gave up three runs on four hits in two innings Wednesday against Wilmington. The eighth-overall pick in the MLB Draft, Fulmer was 24-3 with a 1.99 earned run average in his three-year career at Vanderbilt, with whom he won the 2014 NCAA baseball championship. For more information on Fulmer, see page three of the attached document.

WORST TO FIRST

Winston-Salem was in last place in the Southern Division for the final 50 days of the season's first half. However, the Dash have enjoyed at least a share of first place for the first 40 days of half two. In their previous five halves (2013 first half to 2015 first half), the Dash were in first for a combined 33 days. The squad's current first-place streak represents the third-longest since Winston-Salem became the Dash in 2009:

42 days from July 28-September 7, 2009

41 days from May 10-June 20, 2010

40 days from June 25, 2015-present

35 days from July 31-September 3, 2012

CRITICAL SERIES

For the final time this season, the Dash invade Five County Stadium for a three-game set with Carolina. To earn a spot in the Southern Division Championship Series next month, the Dash simply need to finish ahead of Carolina and Salem in the second-half standings. The Dash are 9-7 against the Muddies this year, a mark that includes five wins in 10 tries in Zebulon.

DASH DOTS

The Dash's bullpen boasts a second-half earned run average of 1.84 (23 ER in 112.1 IP), though the 'pen did permit six unearned runs in the loss on Sunday...Winston-Salem will square off with former Dash southpaw Blair Walters Tuesday...Walters, who pitched with Winston in 2012, is second in the CL with a 2.59 ERA in 22 outings.
