Wichita Wingnuts News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Wichita Wingnuts have added an impact bat to bolster their lineup for the playoff push, acquiring utility man Angel Reyes from the Lincoln Saltdogs on Tuesday in exchange for two players to be named later and cash considerations.
The 23-year old Reyes has put together an excellent season for the Saltdogs, hitting .287 with 10 home runs and 30 RBI over 56 games. A native of Barcelona, Venezuela, Reyes has added 10 doubles and eight stolen bases, posting a .287/.345/.495 slash line.
Reyes has produced at the plate while playing several different positions defensively, though he has primarily split his time in Lincoln between second base, centerfield and right. Over the course of seven professional seasons, Reyes has played every position but pitcher. The 6'0, 200-pounder began his pro career as a 17-year old in the Miami Marlins organization back in 2012, and progressed through the system to reach High-A Jupiter in 2017. For his career, Reyes is a .245 hitter with 24 home runs and 175 RBI.
During a series at Haymarket Park back in May, Reyes went 7-for-13 against the Wingnuts with two home runs and eight RBI, including a walk-off, three-run home run on May 22 to cap an 11-10 Lincoln victory.
The Wingnuts continue their series with the Dogs on Tuesday night. Right-hander Charlie Gillies (5-3, 3.58) gets the start for Wichita, while Chicago will counter with lefty Scott Barnes (1-2, 4.85). First pitch from Impact Field is scheduled for 7:05 PM, and will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
