Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs scored six runs in the fifth inning and beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes 6-3 at Haymarket Park Tuesday night.
The victory broke a four-game losing skid for the Saltdogs (32-35). Mike Tamburino earned his first win since June 20th by tossing five innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. Jose Jose notched his eighth save by tossing a scoreless ninth.
Winnipeg (29-40) struck first in the second inning. Josh Romanski started the frame with a double and scored after Josh Mazzola recorded a two-bagger in the next at bat. After a fly out, Jordan Ebert continued the offense. The first baseman singled up the middle to drive in the second run of the inning. Tamburino induced a fly out from Tyler Baker to strand the bases loaded and get out of the side.
The Goldeyes added a run in the fifth. Baker singled and Reggie Abercrombie followed with a base hit to put runners on the corners. Romanski hit a sac fly to make it 3-1.
The Saltdogs' offense exploded in the fifth. T.J. Bennett lifted an opposite-field home run in the first at bat of the inning to get Lincoln's first run. Two batters later, newcomer Alex Glenn notched a single and Cesar Valera followed with another base hit. Then, Christian Ibarra hit a grounder to shortstop and it looked like the Goldeyes would turn a double play. They recorded the out at second but threw wildly to first base allowing Glenn to score and Ibarra to reach safely. After a walk, Brandon Jacobs singled in Ibarra to tie the game. Next, Randolph Oduber smashed a home run to right-center field to give the Saltdogs the three-run advantage.
Shairon Martis pitched the sixth through eighth innings and shutdown the Goldeyes. He scattered three hits and recorded five straight groundball outs at one point.
The Saltdogs look to start August with a win on Wednesday. First pitch is at 6:45 PM with coverage beginning at 6:15 PM on ESPN 101.5 FM 1480 AM and http://saltdogs.com/stream.
