Stars 2 San Antonio 3 (OT) @ San Antonio
Chris Durno scored the overtime game winning goal as the San Antonio Rampage defeated the Iowa Stars 3-2 Saturday night in San Antonio. The game was the Stars¡¦ last this season at the AT&T Center as they finish with a 1-2-1-0 record in San Antonio this season. The loss also snapped the Stars¡¦ three game winning streak. Still, the Stars have at least a point in five of their last seven games. The Stars took a 2-1 lead after falling behind 1-0. Marius Holtet scored his fifth of the season in the second with Trevor Byrne scoring his first Stars goal 36 seconds into the third period to give his club its first lead of the game. The Rampage tied the score at 6:26 on Nate DiCasmirro¡¦s fifth of the season while Durno¡¦s goal that ended the game came forty seconds into the overtime.
Friday, January 4
Stars 3 Aeros 1 @ Houston
Konstantin Pushkarev scored twice and Tobias Stephan made 31 saves to lead the Iowa Stars to their third straight win 3-1 over the Aeros in Houston Friday night. Pushkarev, playing in his second game since returning to the Stars from Russia, gave his team a 1-0 lead when he deposited Chris Conner¡¦s centering pass on a two on one power play rush. Conner had been assigned to the Stars from Dallas earlier in the day. The score remained 1-0 through the second period. Forty seven seconds into the third, Houston¡¦s Peter Olvecky tied the score. The Stars got the game-winner at 13:07 on a Nolan Baumgartner power play one-timer that was assisted by Perttu Lindgren. Pushkarev gave the Stars the two goal cushion at 17:13. Among Stephan¡¦s 31 saves were several key stops, including a shorthanded break opportunity for the Aeros¡¦ Cal Clutterbuck on the same power play that yielded Baumgartner¡¦s winner. The Aeros outshot the Stars 32-21, but the Stars won the special teams battle as they went two for four on the power play while holding Houston to zero for four.
