Flames Play Four Games In Five Nights This Week

Moline, IL- This week, the Flames play four games in a five-night stretch. The week's schedule begins on Wednesday versus the Grand Rapids Griffins as the Flames look to earn their first win of the New Year. Quad City has faced off with the Griffins twice this season, winning both games. This meeting marks the first contest between the two teams at the i wireless Center. On Friday, the Flames host the Chicago Wolves. The Flames earned their first victory of the season against Chicago in their last match up in December. Saturday night, the Flames travel to Des Moines to take on the Iowa Stars for the fifth time this season. The Flames wrap up their four-game stretch on Sunday vs. the Western Division leading Rockford IceHogs.

The Flames played a home and home series with Peoria last week. In front of a rowdy crowd at the i wireless Center on Saturday, January 5th, the I-74 rivalry heated up as both teams combined for 100 penalty minutes in the first period alone. The game went into overtime and eventually a shootout where Quad City was unable to earn the two points as Peoria scored on three of their five shots. The following evening, Quad City's Grant Stevenson tallied two goals, but the Flames were unable to earn the victory losing 4-3.

Friday, January 11th at 7:05 p.m. at the i wireless Center

Miss Iowa USA, Abbey Curran, will be at Friday night's game to drop the opening puck and sign autographs during each intermission. Curran will greet fans during each intermission on the main concourse behind section 108. Fans will also receive Kris Chucko Cheer Cards prior to Friday's game vs. Chicago. After the game, Chucko will be on hand to sign Cheer Cards for fans in attendance.

The Flames invite fans to bring their blades to the game on Sunday as the team is hosting a post-game skate.

The Flames invite fans to follow the team on the road via b2 Viewing Parties at Bleacher Bums in Davenport or Parkside Grill and Lounge in Moline. The team is on the road on Saturday night for a 7:07 p.m. showdown with the Stars. Drink specials will be offered at both locations. Fans in attendance at Bleacher Bums can purchase $5 domestic pitchers or buckets of beer for $12. Bleacher Bums is located at 3811 N. Harrison Street in Davenport, across the street from Lujack's. Parkside Grill and Lounge is located at 2307 5th Avenue in Moline.

Saturday, January 5th - Peoria 2 at Quad City 1 Shootout

The Flames dropped a 2-1 shootout to Peoria on Saturday at the i wireless Center. Krys Kolanos scored the regulation goal, and Brent Krahn earned second star honors after stopping 32 of the 33 shots he faced. A scoreless first period featured three fights as the teams combined for 50 first period penalty minutes. Krys Kolanos broke through for the game's first goal at 10:32 of the second period. Kolanos took a feed from Flames defenseman Brett Palin and breezed past the Peoria defense to beat Peoria netminder Marek Schwarz for his 11th goal of the year. The tally stood up through the remainder of the middle frame as the Flames skated off the sheet with a 1-0 lead after two. The Rivermen netted the only goal of the third period as Trent Whitfield netted his 11th goal after slamming home a rebound following an Julian Talbot shot. After skating scoreless through the rest of the third and overtime, the Flames headed to their ninth shootout of the year. Peoria took a 2-0 lead on goals by Jean-Guy Trudel and Nicklay Lemtyugov. In the third and fourth round the Flames tied the shootout when Tomi Maki and Carsen Germyn scored. The Rivermen sealed the deal in the fifth round when Julian Talbot scored before Schwarz stoned Tim Ramholt.

Sunday, January 6th - Quad City 3 at Peoria 4

The Flames suffered a controversial 4-3 loss on Sunday afternoon in Peoria. Grant Stevenson scored twice and Krys Kolanos added a solo tally. The game's momentum swung when a non-call on a potential instigator penalty led to three consecutive Peoria goals. A wild second period followed a scoreless opening frame. Quad City took a 2-0 lead when Grant Stevenson and Krys Kolanos scored in the first 3:54 of the middle period. Stevenson's power-play tally was his team-leading 13th goal of the campaign. Kolanos followed with his 12th goal of the season. Following a fight between Tim Ramholt and Nikolay Lemtyugov, the Peoria forward received a 10-minute misconduct, but no minor penalty for instigating. The controversial call shift momentum and the Rivermen scored three times before the second period ended. Jean-Guy Trudel scored twice in a space of 2:07 to tie the game, and Steve Wagner netted a goal with just 1.1 seconds remaining in the period to give Peoria the lead for the first time. The Flames tied the game at 5:51 of the third period when Grant Stevenson scored his 14th goal of the season. The game-tying marker was also Stevenson's ninth power-play tally of the year. The Rivermen claimed the lead for good six minutes later when Jeff Woywitka scored the game-winning goal following the rebound of a shot by Nicholas Drazenvic.
