Hershey Bears News Release
Tom Lawson made 36 saves and Shane Willis scored two goals to lead HERSHEY to a 3-1 victory over the Penguins at Wachovia Arena.
It didn't take long for Penguins enforcer David Koci to find BEARS tough guy Dennis Bonvie. The two were involved in a fight just six seconds into the game at center ice with both men landing punches. The only goal of the first period was picked up by right wing Shane Willis, who buried a wrist shot from the top of the left circle at the 14:03 mark. It was the 17th goal of the season for Willis, and Martin Hlinka picked up his first point as a Bear with an assist. Wilkes-Barre outshot HERSHEY 13 to 10 in the first period.
In the second period, the only goal came off the stick of Eric Perrin. His team leading 18th of the year was assisted on a pretty give-and-go pass from Steve Brule.
The BEARS took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room after two periods. Willis added his second goal of the night early in the third period when he scored at the 1:43 mark. It was the first shorthanded goal the Penguins allowed all season. Ironically enough, Travis Brigley was the last player to score a shorty against the Pens, when he scored at Wachovia Arena on March 23rd of last season.
The BEARS will play Providence at GIANT Center Saturday night. Face-off at 7:00 p.m.
