Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Hagerstown Suns will be distributing Willie Mays bobbleheads to the first 1,000 fans at their Sunday, July 17th game versus the West Virginia Power. Gates to the ballpark will open at approximately 4:30pm. Game time is scheduled for 5:35pm.

The Mays bobbleheads, courtesy of Antrim Way Honda, will feature the Hall-of-Famer in his New York Mets uniform, of which he finished his amazing career in baseball. The Hagerstown Suns are the single A affiliate of the New York Mets.

Mays played his first professional baseball game ever in Hagerstown in 1950 as a Minor Leaguer for the Trenton Giants. He returned to Hagerstown, MD, last year for the first time since and received a phenomenal welcome on August 9th, 2004, at a reception at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center as well as prior to a Hagerstown Suns game that evening where he threw out the 1st pitch and addressed the crowd.

Mays is widely considered as the best player to have ever played on historic Municipal Stadium's field. The ballpark is celebrating it's 75th Anniversary this season.

Sunday also provides a number of other promotions for fans to participate in. Story Time, presented by the Washington County Arts Council will begin at approximately 5pm near 1st base in foul territory. Kids ages 1-7 are welcome to participate as Suns players read stories. Plus, every Sunday is a Maugansville Creamery "Ice Cream Sunday" as each fan receives a free coupon for an ice cream cone. Kids can also "Run the Bases" after the game, courtesy of Antietam Cable Advertising. Finally, each Sunday is a Herald-Mail Family Sunday - with a coupon in the Herald-Mail, families of four can receive 4 hot dogs, 4 popcorns, 4 sodas and 4 tickets for just $25.
