SAVANNAH, Ga. - Savannah and Asheville split a pair at Historic Grayson Stadium Thursday night.

Entering the first game of the night, the Gnats were owners of a four-game winning streak, the product of a series sweep in Greensboro earlier this week. Savannah extended the run to five games with a 10-2 drubbing of the Tourists in the first game of the double header.

Steve Mortimer smacked a two-run homer and Luke Montz hit the squad's second grand slam of the season to seal the deal. Gnats starter Chris Goodman threw four solid frames as an emergency replacement for Daryl Thompson who was scratched just moments before the first pitch.

Savannah's bats cooled off in the night cap, a 6-1 Gnats loss. Savannah starter Ricardo Morales struggled mightily, surrendering six runs, including a solo moon shot by Asheville's Joe Koshansky that started off the scoring. Asheville tacked on five more runs to put the game out of reach in the top of the fifth.

Savannah and Asheville face off in the third game of the series, Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.sandgnats.com, or by calling the Gnats box office at 912-351-9150.
