Hagerstown Suns News Release
(Hagerstown, MD)--Russ Triplett scored the decisive run on a wild pitch in the eighth inning Thursday, as the Hagerstown Suns slipped by the Lake County Captains 2-1 at Municipal Stadium.
Triplett, who walked in all three of his plate appearances, drew a lead-off walk from T.J. Burton in the eighth with the score 1-1. Triplett advanced to third on a pair of groundouts. With Grant Psomas at the plate, Burton uncorked a wild pitch that eluded catcher Wyatt Toregas. Triplett broke for the plate, and slid in just ahead of the tag from Burton, who took the throw from Toregas. Burton (3-6) then finished the inning by striking out Psomas.
It was the third consecutive game that Triplett helped the Suns beat the Captains (9-11, 49-41). He homered in back-to-back games at Classic Park on Monday and Tuesday, and scored hew winning run Thursday.
Bo Bowman (2-2) pitched an inning for the win. Marcelo Perez recorded the final out for his eighth save. Perez also saved Tuesday's 6-5 win for the Suns in Eastlake.
Cody Bunkelman started and worked six innings for the Captains, allowing just three hits and one run. He yielded only an RBI single by Coles in the fifth.
Matt Whitney drove in the only Captains run of the game on an RBI single in the third.
The Captains and Suns will wrap up the series on Friday evening at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330).
