Hagerstown Suns News Release
Russ Triplett continued his heroic play against the Lake County Captains scoring the game winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 2-1.
After homering in back-to-back games against Lake County Triplett raced home when T.J. Burton uncorked a wild pitch. A head first slide just beat the tag by Captain's catcher Wyatt Toregas and relievers Bo Bowman and Marcelo Perez combined to shutdown Lake County in the ninth and preserved the win.
Starter Blake Eager returned to pitch in his first game in Municipal Stadium since May after rehabilitating from a back injury. The righthander lasted 6 innings allowing just 3 hits and 1 run while striking out 5.
The Suns tied the game at 1 in the fifth inning when Jesus Flores came around to score on an RBI single by Corey Coles. Coles fouled off a number of pitches in an 0-2 count before driving the ball through the right side of the infield. Pitcher Jason Weintraub made his Hagerstown Suns debut in the 7th frame, working a perfect inning before turning the ball over to Bowman in the 8th.
Despite not allowing a single hit, Burton got his 6th loss of the season. Bowman picked up his second win of the year and Perez earned the save.
The Suns and Captains play again tomorrow night at 7:05 on a Fireworks Friday presented by U.S. Cellular and Lite 97.5 FM. Friday is also a Faith Night, featuring a pre-game concert and Bible trivia throughout the game. The first 2,000 fans at the game will receive a special Bob the Tomato baseball. Stop by or call the Suns offices for tickets at 301-791-6266.
