Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins recall defenseman Mario Larocque from Wheeling

WILKES-BARRE, PA. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have recalled defenseman Mario Larocque from their ECHL affiliate, the Wheeling Nailers. The announcement was made today by Penguins' team president Jeff Barrett.

Larocque, 25, has recorded four assists and 61 penalty minutes in 16 games this season with the Nailers. He is second on the team in penalty minutes and is tied for third in plus/minus rating with a plus-7 rating.

The 6-3, 210-pound native of Montreal, Quebec was signed by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to a one-year American Hockey League contract on October 18, 2003.

In 66 games with Wheeling last season, Larocque recorded 44 points (18+26) and 194 penalty minutes. He ranked among the team leaders in assists (tied for second), points (third), goals (fourth) and penalty minutes (sixth).

He was selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round (16TH overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. In five career games with the Lightning, Larocque had no points and 16 penalty minutes.

The Penguins (8-9-2-2, 20 pts; T-5TH -place, East Division) complete their five-game road trip this weekend when they visit the Providence Bruins on Friday (7:05 p.m.) and the Binghamton Senators on Saturday (7:05 p.m.).
