Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose would like to announce the second in a series of five special nights this season to honour the final year of hockey in the Winnipeg Arena. The second event in the "Building Memories...Building Excitement" theme for the 2003-04 season will occur Saturday, December 6, 2003 when the Manitoba Moose adopt an international flavour against the Rochester Americans at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, December 6 the Manitoba Moose will celebrate international hockey memories that occurred during the 49-year history of the Winnipeg Arena with "International Action" night. Events such as Game 3 of the 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the Soviet Union, the 1981 Canada Cup, the 1982 and 1999 World Junior Hockey Championships, and exhibition games between the Russian National Team and the Winnipeg Jets in both 1978 and 1991. The Winnipeg Arena was also home to Canada's national hockey program from 1964-1970.

The game will feature the following special events:

· the Moose will wear white Team Canada jerseys circa the 1976 and 1981 Canada Cup with half a red maple leaf and the word "Canada" emblazoned on the front o these jerseys will then be autographed and auctioned off after the game.

· the Canada Cup itself will be in the Arena, as well as a number of Gold Medals and international jerseys on loan from the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

· a series of video presentations from Hockey Canada recounting some of the great international hockey memories for Canada.

Just as "Nostalgia Night" earlier this season, "International Action" night will be followed by three other theme nights this season remembering the great eras of hockey played in the Winnipeg Arena as the future of pro hockey in this province shifts to the True North Centre.
