Wild Things Fall to Crushers 8-3

July 31, 2013 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release

Avon, Oh - A stellar first inning wasn't enough to give the Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, a victory against the Lake Erie Crushers at All Pro Freight Stadium Wednesday night. The Wild Things were defeated 8 - 3.

The game started well for Washington when CJ Beatty and Mark Samuelson each smacked solo shots over the wall to give the Wild Things a 2-0 start. But in the bottom of the inning Lake Erie answered with their own home run... a three run shot off the bat of Andrew Davis.

In the third inning Washington's Quincy Latimore tied it up with his first Wild Things home run, but that was the only score the Wild Things could muster.

The Crushers added three runs in the fifth and another in the sixth to give the squad a five run advantage.

Zach Fleshman, who pitched 3.2 innings, took the loss for Washington allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out three in his first professional start. Anthony Collazo allowed four runs on five hits in 1.1 innings of relief. Orlando Santos kept the Crushers off the board in his three innings on the hill.

The Crushers and Wild Things meet for game two of this three game set Thursday night when first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Air time on WJPA 95.3 FM EDT. Shawn Blackwell is expected to take the hill for Washington.

The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park for a nine game homestand Saturday night when they host the Frontier League Greys. Tickets are available at the box office.
