Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet's offense could produce only one run on four hits against Schaumburg's pitching (Joliet, IL) - The Joliet Slammers' offense cooled off quickly in the first game back against the Schaumburg Boomers (36-29) after a promising six game road trip, with Joliet falling by a final of 6-1.
The Slammers (28-36) had only two hits on the board into the sixth inning and managed only one run against a Schaumburg pitching staff that struck out 11 Joliet batters.
Chuck Lofgren suffers the loss, falling to (5-5) and Matt Kuna (5-3) records the victory for the boomers.
Lofgren surrendered two long balls on the night with Steve McQuail hitting a two-run shot in the first and Chad Mozingo taking Lofgren deep in the third frame to put the Boomers up 3-0.
The Slammers cut the lead to 3-1 in the sixth inning when Niko Vasquez scored on the groundout from Grant DeBruin to make it a two-run ballgame but Schaumburg would add two runs in the very next inning to make it 5-1 and an insurance run in the eighth to put the game to bed by a score of 6-1.
Bret Zawacki (4-5, 4.75) receives the start in the second on Thursday with Mike Giovenco (6-4, 3.89) starting for the Boomers. First pitch is once again at 7:05 and the Joliet Slammers' pre game show on 1340 WJOL begins at 6:50 p.m.
