Brampton Beast News Release
Moline, IL - It was back and forth action for the second straight night in Moline, Illinois as the Brampton Beast (9-15-1) again found themselves in a 4-3 game the Quad City Mallards (14-10-5).
Tonight, they emerged victorious.
Chad Painchaud had a three point night while captain Cal Wild potted the game-winning goal in the third period to get the Beast back into the win column and end the team's nine-game road trip on a positive note. The offensive reinforcements for the Beast also made their presence felt, as Dalton Thrower, Justin Donati, and recently returned Tyler Donati each added an assist and were a collective +6. Beast goaltender Grant Rollheiser made 32 saves in the victory, his third of the season.
The opening period was a scoreless one, with both teams looking hungry and checking hard coming out of the gate. It took only 66 seconds for the fireworks to erupt as Thrower and Paxton Leroux dropped the gloves for a spirited fight early on. The Mallards would build momentum as the period continued with three consecutive powerplays to head into the first intermission with a 14-4 shot advantage.
The Quad City hosts continued to press into the second frame, with Nicholas Rioux opening the scoring on the Mallards fourth powerplay of the game.
The goal seemed to ignite a fire on the Beast bench, because it was a different team that came on the ice for the very next faceoff. Less than two minutes later, Painchaud tied the game 1-1, tipping a Justin Donati shot past Mallards goalie Evan Mosher. The Beast's leading scorer would find the back of the again just 30 seconds later, this time assisted by the other Donati twin Tyler to give the Beast their first lead of the game.
Rookie Tyson Fawcett, who had been quiet the past several games going back to his two-point outing against the Mallards before the break, provided some insurance with his fifth goal of the year before the end of the period, forcing Quad City to pull their starting goaltender for the first time all season.
With a 3-1 advantage after 40 minutes of play, the Beast continued to forecheck aggressively into the third period, and just 3:49 in the hard work paid off with Cal Wild burying the rebound after Painchaud was stopped by Mosher's replacement Parker Milner.
With the score 4-1, the Beast saw several calls go against their way that gave the Mallards a chance to get back into the game. Jeff Lee scored on the powerplay and Mario Lamoureux found the back of the net just 14 seconds later to cut Brampton's lead to 4-3. Justin Donati appeared to restore the two-goal lead shortly afterwards with his first goal as a Beast, only to have the play waved off despite the lack of an interference call. In the end, the Beast would hold on, thanks largely in part to Rollheiser's 32 saves.
Catch Painchaud, the Donati twins, Dalton Thrower and the rest of the Beast in action at home, when the team welcomes the Toledo Walleye to the Powerade Centre this week. The Beast will be wearing specialty ugly sweater jerseys that will be live auctioned following the game on Tuesday, December 30 at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday, December 31, experience a Frozen themed game with performances from the ice princesses and a special tea party for kids prior to puck drop. Tickets are still available for both games and can be purchased at bramptonbeast.com.
