
Whitecaps Send Four to All-Star Game

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps will send four representatives to the 2015 Midwest League All-Star Classic at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois on Tuesday, June 23.
Representing the Whitecaps are pitchers Spencer Turnbull and Joe Jimenez, third baseman Zach Shepherd and outfielder Mike Gerber. The Midwest League unveiled the rosters on Friday based on a vote of league managers.
The Eastern Division roster will be guided by the Lake County Captains field staff led by manager Shaun Larkin, pitching coach Steve Karsay and hitting coach Larry Day.
Turnbull has turned a pair of one-hit performances as the Tigers second-round pick has posted a 3-2 record with a 3.35 ERA. In 45.2 innings on the mound, Turnbull's allowed 42 hits and struck out 38 batters this season. Jimenez has dominated opposing hitters in 2015. The 6-foot-4 right-hander out of San Juan, Puerto Rico is 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA and three saves through 15 appearances. Opponents are batting just .148 against Jimenez, who has 28 strikeouts and just five walks through 15.1 innings of work.
Representing the Whitecaps' offense are Shepherd and Gerber; both of whom were selected as starters for the Eastern squad.
Shepherd, a 19-year-old prospect from Sydney, Australia is tied for fifth in the Midwest League with 15 doubles. Shepherd enters play Friday second on the team in RBI with 31 is batting .263 with two home runs. Gerber's superb season continues as the Midwest League's leading hitter, sporting a .369 batting average while playing in all 53 Whitecaps games in 2015. The 22-year-old outfielder has hit a team-high 4 home runs and 34 RBI with 13 stolen bases.
The Whitecaps continue this three-game series against the Quad Cities River Bandits Thursday at 7:00pm. Pitcher Fernando Perez starts for the Whitecaps against Brock Dykxhoorn for Quad Cities.
