West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - West Michigan Whitecaps starting pitcher Brendan White came just one punchout shy of tying his season-high as the offense managed just one run in a 6-1 loss to the Peoria Chiefs on Friday night at LMCU Ballpark.
White had a solid start going 5.1 innings while allowing just two runs while striking out eight Peoria hitters and walking none. Meanwhile, Chiefs pitching struck out 11 'Caps batters as West Michigan finished 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the defeat.
St. Louis Cardinals top-5 prospect Jordan Walker laced an RBI-single to put the Chiefs in front 1-0 in the first inning. In the sixth, the Chiefs added to their lead as Davenport University product Jacob Buchberger roped a ground-rule double to extend the lead to 2-0. Peoria added three insurance runs in the next inning as Pedro Pages and Todd Lott both added RBI knocks before a fielding error scored Pages, making it 5-0 Chiefs. In the eighth, the Whitecaps finally got on the scoreboard as a wild pitch scored Wenceel Perez to make it 5-1. 'Caps infielder Jose King allowed a run in the top of the ninth inning before Chiefs reliever Enmanuel Solano shut the door in the ninth to secure the Peoria victory.
White (3-7) suffered his seventh loss on the season, as Chiefs starting pitcher Wilfredo Pereira (3-8) struck out six 'Caps hitters through six scoreless innings in his third victory of 2021. The Chiefs improve to 40-66 as the Whitecaps fall to 51-55. The Whitecaps still sit eight wins away from 2,000 victories in franchise history with 14 games remaining.
