READING, PA - Starter Alex White pitched seven efficient innings Saturday night to lead the Aeros to a 12-1 victory at First Energy Stadium against the Reading Phillies. Akron smacked three home runs on the night and 17 hits total, snapping back-to-back defeats at the hand of the Phillies this weekend. A crowd of 6,765 fans witnessed the Aeros (53-47) score early and often en route to remaining only one-half game behind the Bowie Baysox for the second place wild card spot in the Western Division while Reading is now 49-50.

First baseman Beau Mills starred early for Akron as he drew a leadoff walk in the second inning against Phillies starter Yohan Flande. Mills eventually scored on a fielder's choice before a monster bottom of the third for the road team. The Aeros scored five runs in that frame, all with no outs, and started with a double and three singles. Mills then brought home three more runs with a homer to right, providing for the early 6-0 advantage.

White cruised in the meantime, finally allowing the Phillies to score their lone run in the bottom of the fourth. Timo Perez plated Michael Spidale on the RBI single, but Akron maintained the six-run edge with another score in the fifth. Designated hitter Matt McBride doubled to begin the frame while both shortstop Carlos Rivero and left fielder John Drennen singled to bring home the run.

The blowout continued in the sixth when center fielder Jordan Henry walked and second baseman Jason Kipnis singled to end Flande's night. An error by second baseman Harold Garcia then plated Henry while McBride's sacrifice fly made it an eight-run game.

Aeros right fielder Jerad Head then extended the lead yet again with a leadoff home run in the top of the seventh. White finished after the seventh right before Drennen delivered the evening's final blow with a two-run, two-out home run in the eighth.

White (6-4) earned the win with his sixth consecutive quality start, striking out seven batters against one run on eight hits. The 21-year-old now has a 1.48 ERA in 12 Eastern League starts and he has allowed just four earned runs over these last six outings. Flande (7-7) took the loss in permitting nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits in five frames while relievers Rob Bryson and Chen-Chang Lee shutout the Phillies in the final two innings.

Nine of the 10 Akron batters collected a hit on the night while six finished with multi-hit performances. McBride was the only to finish with three base knocks while also scoring three times and driving in a pair of runs. Drennen and Mills each had three RBI in the victory while both homered for the eighth time this season.

The Aeros hope to manage a four-game split in this weekend series in Sunday afternoon's finale at 1:05 p.m. at First Energy Stadium. Akron left-hander Kelvin De La Cruz (3-5, 5.16 ERA) will look for his third win in three second half starts against a currently unannounced Reading starter.
