Thunder Give up Lead in Finale Loss at Altoona

Altoona, PA- The Curve sent ten batters to the plate during a six-run fifth inning off RHP Hector Noesi, and Altoona held on to beat Trenton 6-4 in the series finale on Sunday night. With the loss, the Thunder fall to 60-41 on the year.

The Thunder came away with the game's first run, as Daniel Brewer hit an RBI single to center field in the top of the first inning, scoring Austin Krum and putting Trenton ahead 1-0 off LHP Tony Watson. In the top of the second inning, Edwar Gonzalez hit a solo home run off Watson to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead. Another run came in to score on a Justin Snyder sacrifice fly, and Trenton went up 3-0 at the end of two innings.

For the third time this series, Brandon Laird connected on a solo home run to left field off a left-hander. Laird's third inning homer put Trenton ahead 4-0.

Hector Noesi (6-2) cruised through the first four innings by only allowing two hits. In the fifth, he was touched for six runs on six hits, including a two-run double by the ninth batter, Anthony Norman. Altoona tied the ball game after Noesi committed a throwing error on a pick-off attempt, bring in Josh Harrison from third base.

Cory Arbiso, Wilkin de la Rosa and Kevin Whelan combined to shut down the Curve for just two hits over the last 3 1/3 innings. In the top of the ninth with one out, Justin Christian tripled to right field, bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. However, Krum hit a ground out to the pitcher and Laird flew out to center field to end the ball game.

Trenton next opens up a seven game home stand starting on Monday night at 7:05 PM against the New Britain Rock Cats. RHP Andrew Brackman will start for the Thunder, while New Britain gives the ball to RHP Mike McCardell. Catch all the action on 107. 7 FM The Bronc or at www.trentonthunder.com.
