
Rock Cats Rally in Eighth, Withstand Ninth-Inning Challenge

New Britain, CT - New Britain scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth and Billy Bullock escaped a ninth inning jam as the Rock Cats downed New Hampshire, 9-6 on Sunday afternoon.
With two outs in the eighth, the Rock Cats pounded out five consecutive singles. Chris Cates and Ben Revere started things off with base hits to put runners on the corners. Brandon Roberts and Chris Parmelee followed with RBI line drive singles to right field to put the Rock Cats back on top, 8-6. Jair Fernandez added an RBI single to right.
The Rock Cats jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Leadoff man Revere reached and Roberts followed with a base hit to right field. Parmelee then lined a double into left field to knock in both runners.
Steve Singleton's sacrifice fly plated Brandon Roberts in the third to extend the lead, 3-0.
Tyler Robertson kept New Hampshire off the board through the first four innings. In the bottom of the fifth, the Fisher Cats finally broke through for two runs. Jonathan Jaspe and Jonathan Diaz started the inning with consecutive singles. A throwing error by shortstop Yancarlos Ortiz allowed Luis Sanchez to recahe base safely and loaded the bases with no outs. Robertson then walked Darin Mastroianni to force in the Fisher Cats' first run. Adeiny Hechavarria added an RBI sacrifice fly to close the gap, 3-2.
Roberts gave the Rock Cats breathing room by delivering a solo homer - his first of the season - in the bottom of the fifth. Singleton added an RBI double in the three-run inning that put the Rock Cats ahead, 6-2.
Adam Loewen led off the top of the sixth with a solo shot over the right field wall to cut the Rock Cats' lead in half, 6-3. Robertson left the game with two outs in the sixth, limiting the Fisher Cats to three runs (2 ER) on seven hits through 5 2/3 innings. Cole DeVries came on in relief and forced a line out to end the inning. The Fisher Cats then jumped on DeVries in the seventh. Mastroianni lined a one-out double to right, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Hechavarria's single to center. Eric Thames then delivered a two-run homer - his 19th of the season - that tied the game.
Roberts finished with four runs and three hits and Parmelee added three hits to lead a 14-hit attack by New Britain. Bullock (1-2) picked up the win for the Rock Cats. Danny Farquhar (2-3) suffered the loss.
