Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: Six games into the young season and the Albuquerque Isotopes (4-2) already have three walk off wins, including two walk off home runs in as many days. Right fielder Tim Wheeler smashed a line drive home run over the right-center field wall in the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday night, giving the Isotopes a 6-5 win against the Tacoma Rainiers (2-4). It is their third-straight victory.
DECIDING MOMENT: Back-to-back doubles by the Rainiers in the top of the ninth tied the game at five, but the Isotopes were all too familiar with the late inning heroics. Tim Wheeler stepped in the box to lead off the home half of the ninth and blasted a 1-1 pitch over the right-center field wall for the Isotopes' second walk off in as many nights.
HELL ON WHEELERS: Tim Wheeler mashed his first two home runs of the 2015 seasons Tuesday night, a two-run blast in the sixth and a solo shot in the ninth. He finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI and a walk. He is also the second-consecutive Albuquerque player to mash two homers in a game after Dustin Garneau's two-homer performance Monday night.
WALK OFF MAGIC: The Isotopes have four wins in six games this season. Three of those victories have been walk offs. The magic first appeared Friday night when Angelys Nina poked a single through the infield with the bases loaded to score Cristhian Adames and give the Isotopes a 2-1 win. On Monday, Dustin Garneau mashed two homer, including a 10th inning solo shot that vaulted Albuquerque to a 4-3 win. Next in line is Tim Wheeler's Tuesday night walk off.
KAHNLE? YES HE CANE: Tommy Kahnle entered the game in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded, no one out and the Isotopes leading by one. He managed to escape the jam with a lineout and back-to-back strikeouts. In three appearances this season, Kahnle has stranded all four of his inherited runners and hasn't allowed any of the first batters he has faced to reach base.
EVERY (DE LA) ROSA HAS ITS THORN: Colorado Rockies ace Jorge De La Rosa made his second rehab start with Albuquerque Tuesday night, tossing five innings and allowing just two earned runs. He finished with 5.0 IP, three runs, two earned, no walks and five strikeouts. He threw 76 pitches, 50 of which were strikes.
ON DECK: The Isotopes and Rainiers will play game three of their four-game series Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Jon Gray (0-1, 11.25 ERA) will take the hill for Albuquerque, while Tacoma will send lefty Roenis Elias (1-0, 7.20 ERA).
IN THE HOLE: After wrapping up the season-opening eight game homestand on Thursday, the Isotopes will hit the road for a season-longest 12-game, 13-day road trip to Reno, Tacoma and Las Vegas.
