Tacoma Rainiers News Release
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Franklin Gutierrez posted two hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Tacoma Rainiers fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes 7-6 at Isotopes Park on Wednesday night.
The outfielder erased a 6-4 deficit for the Rainiers after lining a two-run double with one out in the top of the eighth inning. That score lasted only until the bottom of the frame when Albuquerque pulled ahead for good when Ryan Casteel grounded into a force out that plated Ryan Casteel.
Tacoma initially held a lead as large as 4-0 after a four-run first inning that saw Jesus Montero hit a two RBI single. Montero has now hit safely in each of the Rainiers first seven games this season, batting .357 (10x28) with three doubles, one home run and four RBIs.
Reliever Joe Saunders (0-1) surrendered the game-deciding run to the Isotopes in the bottom of the eighth inning and was dealt the loss. Starter Roenis Elias allowed six runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings. The left-hander struck out two and walked two in his second start of the season.
The Rainiers (2-5) look to avoid a series sweep in the final game of the team's four-game series at Albuquerque (5-2), tomorrow, April 15. Right-hander Sam Gaviglio (1-0, 0.00) is slated to start for Tacoma against left-hander John Lannan (0-0, 0.00) for the Isotopes. First pitch is scheduled for 11:05 a.m.
