Sounds Halt OKC Dodgers Comebacks in 7-6 Win

Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers overcame a 5-0 deficit and tied the Nashville Sounds in the seventh and ninth innings to force extra innings, but the Sounds scored in the 10th inning for a 7-6 win Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Nashville's Billy Burns connected on a RBI triple in the top of the 10th inning to break a 6-6 tie in the first extra-inning game of the season for Oklahoma City in front of a crowd of 2,967.

The Sounds (4-2) built a 5-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning before the OKC Dodgers tallied five runs in the bottom of the frame to tie the game.

Nashville responded with a run in the eighth inning, but Oklahoma City once again tied the game as Darnell Sweeney scored on a wild pitch by Sounds reliever Chad Smith in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings.

Nashville outhit Oklahoma City, 13-4, in the game that ended a four-game winning streak for the Dodgers (4-2).

Sounds catcher Bryan Anderson's two-out RBI double put Nashville ahead, 1-0, in the third inning.

Tyler Ladendorf singled on a ground ball to second baseman Kiké Hernandez and Max Muncy scored for a 2-0 Sounds lead in the sixth. Two more runs scored on what appeared would be an inning-ending double play, but shortstop Elliot Johnson's throw sailed wide of first base and the Sounds took a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh inning, Nashville extended to a 5-0 lead. With Muncy batting, a wild pitch by Jorge De Leon allowed Burns to score.

The OKC Dodgers knotted up the score, 5-5, with five runs in the bottom of the frame.

Singles from Kyle Jensen and Austin Barnes, followed by a walk drawn by Buck Britton loaded the bases for Matt Carson with one out. Carson then drew a bases-loaded walk to put the first run of the night on the scoreboard for the OKC Dodgers.

With the bases still loaded, Johnson reached on a fielding error by Nashville third baseman Andy Parrino and Barnes scored to cut the Sounds' lead to three runs.

Sweeney came to the plate next and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home another run for the Dodgers.

After a Nashville pitching change, Oklahoma City added two more runs to tie the game, 5-5. Scott Schebler reached on a fielding error by Nashville first baseman Muncy, and Carson scored to cut the Sounds' lead to one run. Hernandez then grounded into a force out and Johnson scored OKC's fifth run of the night.

Nashville loaded the bases with one out in the eighth. Sergio Santos replaced De Leon on the mound for Oklahoma City and struck out Parrino for the second out of the inning. Muncy then drew a walk to give the Sounds a 6-5 lead.

In the ninth, Sweeney drew a two-out walk and advanced to third on a double by Schebler. He then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game, 6-6, and force extra innings.

Oklahoma City starting pitcher Scott Baker went 5.0 innings, allowing one run (earned), five hits and struck out six. Reliever Rudy Owens was charged with the loss in his Dodgers debut, allowing one run and two hits in the 10th inning.

Pitcher Chad Smith was charged with a blown save and got the win for Nashville, allowing one run and one hit over the final two innings.

The OKC Dodgers continue their season-opening homestand at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday against Nashville at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The series is tied, 1-1.
