Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
BRANDON M.B. - The Tri-City Americans erase a two-goal deficit in the third period to comeback and defeat the Brandon Wheat Kings by a score of 4-3 Friday night.
The Wheat Kings maintained consistent time inside the offensive zone in the opening frame but with only 2:02 remaining the Americans would capitalize on a turnover allowing Adam Mechura to fire the puck through Carson Bjarnason to make it 1-0 Tri City after one.
The Wheat Kings would take over in the second frame with two late goals. The Americans would go on a 5 on 3 two-man advantage where Brett Hyland stole the puck away and would maintain possession inside the Americans zone allowing Nate Danielson to drive the net to take a pass from Hyland. Danielson would wire a one timed shot past Americans goaltender Tomas Suchanek to tie it up. Then with only 13 seconds remaining in the period, Nolan Ritchie would find Calder Anderson down the left-wing side allowing Anderson to score his 3rd of the year giving the Wheat Kings their first lead of the game.
The third period started well for the Wheat Kings with Jake Chiasson scoring a powerplay goal to extend the lead making it 3-1. The Americans would linger around the Wheat Kings zone throughout the second half of the third period. While on the powerplay, the Americans would cut the lead to one with Jake Sloan deflecting a Lukas Dragicevic shot and in with just over 12 minutes remaining in regulation. With under 5 minutes remaining, the Wheat Kings would get caught inside their own zone allowing Ethan Ernst to toe drag placing a wrist shot to the right side of the net passed Bjarnason to force overtime.
In the extra frame Brett Hyland would get called for a hit from behind putting the Americans back on the powerplay, that's where Adam Mechura would find Dragicevic with a cross ice pass to win the game for the Americans. The Brandon Wheat Kings have now lost 5 in a row and will look to snap that losing streak against the Saskatoon Blades Saturday night. The Blades defeated the Wheat Kings in Brandon earlier this year by a score of 5-3.
