Prince Albert Raiders News Release

The Prince Albert Raiders played arguably their best game of the season on Friday night, but their efforts came up just short against the Moose Jaw Warriors, falling 3-2 on home ice.

The Raiders nearly opened the scoring early in the game when Sloan Stanick led a 2 on 1 rush with Evan Herman down the wing. Stanick sauced a pass in front for Herman, who got his stick on it, but missed the net with his redirection try. Hayden Pakkala almost pulled off a fantastic individual effort minutes later with a deke past a Warriors defender, but his chance was also foiled.

However, on Prince Albert's first and only powerplay of the first period, Landon Kosior made good on a shot from the high slot. The defenceman wired a shot through traffic for his seventh goal of the seaso, and third powerplay goal in two games. The goal with 5:25 left in the opening frame was the icebreaker, as the Raiders jumped in front to a 1-0 lead.

With 2:05 left in the period, the Warriors tied things back up. Robert Baco took a shot from the high slot that beat the traffic in front and a screened Max Hildebrand, who didn't react in time for the shot due to the bodies in front. Baco's second tally of the season knotted the score at 1-1, and that's how the score would read heading into the middle frame, with Moose Jaw holding an 11-8 edge in shots.

Nolan Allan scored the lone goal in the second period, and it came on the powerplay with 7:31 to go in the middle frame. Allan carried the puck into the offensive zone himself and fired a shot from long distance that fooled Connor Ungar. His fourth of the season gave the Raiders the lead again, as they went out in front 2-1, and would hold onto that lead going into the third.

In the final frame, the game slipped away from the Raiders, as the Warriors scored twice in a span of 1:06 to jump in front 3-2. Riley Ginnell started the Moose Jaw comeback with a power move to the net, working across the crease to beat Max Hildebrand to tie things 2-2. Jagger Firkus added another goal with a shorthanded effort to put the visitors on top by a goal.

A late push back from the Raiders fell just short, as Moose Jaw held on for the 3-2 win, despite multiple chances for Prince Albert to tie things late.

The loss puts the Raiders' record at 4-10-2-0 on the season. They will hit the ice once again tomorrow night when the Everett Silvertips come to town. Puck drop is 7pm.
