Tri-City Americans News Release
The Americans will wrap up their East Division road trip tonight against the ICE. It will be Tri-City's first visit to Wayne Fleming Arena as the Americans haven't visited the East Division since the ICE relocated to Winnipeg.
The two teams last played on November 22, 2019 when the ICE took a 3-2 overtime victory in Kennewick. Four players on the Ams current roster were in the lineup that night: Ian Ferguson, Tyson Greenway, Parker Bell, and Marc Lajoie.
Tri-City currently boasts the second best power play in the league at 28.8%, Winnipeg is 15th at 20.3%. The ICE have the best penalty kill in the WHL at 89.5%, the Americans are 21st at 68%. The Americans will look to upset the ICE, who are on a 9 game winning streak, and build on their victory last night in Brandon.
The Tri-City Americans came from behind and defeated the Brandon Wheat Kings last night 4-3 in overtime. Lukas Dragicevic was Tri-City's hero, recording the second overtime goal of his career. Tri-City has now been victorious in their last six visits to Brandon.
Adam Mechura opened scoring to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead. Brandon then followed with 3 straight and held a 3-1 lead in the final period. Jake Sloan and Ethan Ernst scored to tie the game for the Americans and send the game to overtime. A double boarding penalty on Brandon gave Tri-City a 3 minute power play in overtime, which Lukas Dragicevic capitalized on for tonight's game-winning goal. With a goal and an assist last night, Dragicevic stands alone as the points leader among WHL defensemen. He's on a 9 game point streak with 3 goals and 9 assists over that period. Tomas Suchanek played the full game in net for the Americans, stopping 24 of 27 shots faced and earning his 7th victory of the season.
