November 14, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
WHITE PLAINS, November 14, 2015 - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, gave the hometown crowd another exciting finish, coming back from a 15-point deficit to secure a 83-79 win over the Erie BayHawks (Orlando Magic affiliate).
The two teams took their time waking up for the Saturday afternoon contest, the score just 20-16 in favor of the BayHawks at the end of the first quarter. Free throws were Erie's saving grace as they hit 12-of-15 despite going the entire quarter without an assist.
Westchester found itself down by as many as 15 points in the second, going 0-for-4 from beyond the arc and shooting just 1-for-8 from downtown through the first half. Erie, with the slight edge in field goal percentage (37.8% vs. 28.9%), went into the locker room with the lead, 43-32, while Westchester recorded its lowest scoring half since playing the BayHawks on Jan. 23, 2015.
Erie's Melvin Ejim posted 16 points in the third quarter, but his teammates were not much help as the rest of the BayHawks combined for just seven points. Continuing his third quarter hot streak, Westchester's Travis Trice II heated up, delivering 16 points in the second half while DaJuan Summers delivered 18 of his own.
The tides would change in the fourth quarter. With under two minutes to go, Summers nailed a three-pointer to tie it up for the first time since the first quarter. The Knicks then took advantage of two consecutive missed free throws from Erie's Nnanna Egwu and Westchester charged ahead off a Summers free throw. Staying hot, Summers added a lay-up with 34 seconds to go to extend the Knicks lead, while Trice secured the win with a free throw of his own.
DaJuan Summers led all scorers with 30 points, securing the double-double with 11 rebounds. Travis Trice II finished with 21 points, notching seven assists and three steals. Westchester's Thanasis Antetokounmpo rounded out the double-digit scoring for Westchester, adding 15 points, four rebounds, and two steals.
Melvin Ejim led Erie with 21 points, adding 14 rebounds for the double-double. Center Nnanna Egu finished with 14 points, also adding six rebounds and two assists.
The Westchester Knicks will be back in action at the Westchester County Center next Friday, Nov. 20 for a 7:00 p.m. match-up against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The game will be broadcast live on MSG 2 and YouTube.
