West Virginia gets second shutout win over Legends

Kyle McPherson pitched no-hit baseball for seven innings, and the West Virginia Power shut out the Lexington Legends 5-0 Tuesday in Charleston. The Legends got their only hit of the game in the eighth inning when Miguel Arrendell lined a two-out single off the wall in right field against reliever Ryan Kelly.

West Virginia scored all five of its runs in the bottom of the seventh.With one out, Legends reliever Colton Pitkin, who had worked out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the sixth, walked Evan Chambers and Elevys aron Baker followed with his fourth home run of the year to give the Power a 3-0 lead. After David Rubenstein doubled, Wander Alvino replaced Pitkin. Alvino retired Ramon Cabrera on a popup, but Jesus Cabrera homered to left field to give the Power their final margin.

McPherson had nine strikeouts in the game, and Kelly had five. It was the second straight shutout win for West Virginia, which beat the Legends Monday night 3-0.

The third game of the four-game series will be played Wednesday morning at 11:05 a.m.
