Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Jonathan Singleton continued his hot streak at the plate and the BlueClaws crushed the Suns 9-2 Tuesday night.
Singleton went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and his fourth home run in 44 at-bats with Lakewood (25-21). He's now hitting .432 since being recalled from extended spring training to replace Darin Ruf on the roster.
The Lakewood offense scored all nine runs in the first four innings in support of lefty Matt Way (3-4), who shut down Hagerstown (26-20). Through seven innings he allowed only four hits, two unearned runs, and struck out seven for his third win in his last four starts.
With the score tied at one in the bottom of the second, the BlueClaws jumped ahead against Suns starter Paul Applebee (1-2).
Jeremy Barnes reached on an error by third baseman Steven Souza, and Sebastian Valle and Domingo Santana singled to load the bases with one out.
After a Jiwan James strikeout, Jonathan Villar was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, and Adam Buschini blasted a three-run double to deep left to give the Claws a 5-1 lead.
In the third Singleton extended the lead to 6-1 with a solo shot, and Domingo Santana doubled in a run with two outs. Singleton struck again the fourth driving in two with a base hit to make it 9-1.
Both teams combined for seven errors, four of which were charged to Hagerstown. Only three of Lakewood's nine runs were earned.
Wednesday afternoon (11:05 am) RHP Julio Rodriguez will make his first start of the season for the BlueClaws since being recalled. He will be opposed by RHP Paul Demny (2-1, 3.29).
