May 25, 2010 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - Chris Heston was tagged for six runs in the first five innings as the Augusta GreenJackets dropped their second straight decision to the last place Rome Braves by an 8-4 score on Tuesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

In a game the GreenJackets never led, Rome struck first in the opening frame after a two-out single from Jake Hanson. Off Heston, Hanson stole second and made it to third when the throw to second deflected off Ryan Cavan's glove. Hanson trotted home from third on a wild pitch to put the Braves on the board.

Jordan Kreke's RBI single in the third added to the lead and in the fourth, Rome scored three more times to take a 5-0 lead. LV Ware tripled home a pair and scored on an RBI hit from Cory Harrilchak. In the fifth, Christian Bethancourt singled home a run and with two outs Chris Curley's double sent Heston to the showers. Heston (2-5) allowed six runs - five earned - on 11 hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

Luke Anders' seventh home run of the year - all of them solo shots - put the GreenJackets on the board in the fourth. After Rome scored a pair off a tiring Brian Irving in the eighth, Augusta scored three more times in the ninth to close the gap to four. Hector Sanchez singled home a run, a Sharlon Schoop fly ball was dropped in center to score another and Ryan Lollis grounded out to bring a third man home. Evan Crawford struck out with a man on third to end the game.

Rome starter Cory Rasmus got the win after a five-inning outing. Rasmus (2-3) allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out four. A quartet of Braves relievers held the GreenJackets scoreless on one hit until the ninth. Offensively, Chris Curley had a career-high four-hit night.

Jorge Bucardo (2-2, 2.27) takes the mound for the GreenJackets on Wednesday as Augusta looks to earn the series split. Rome sends Chris Masters (1-2, 1.34) to the mound to try and earn the series win for the Braves. First pitch will come at 7:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
