Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

The Kannapolis Intimidators, in a battle of low-scoring teams, scratched out a 2-1 victory on Tuesday against the Savannah Sand Gnats, an hour after losing the completion of their game in the 13th inning. The Intimidators snapped their four game losing streak and are back at .500 on the season.

The scoring occurred in two innings in this ballgame as the Intimidators (23-23) had Ian Gac lead off with a single in the second, followed by a smash triple to the base of the wall in center by Nick Ciolli and a groundout RBI for Trayce Thompson as the Intimidators led 2-0 after two. Taylor Whitenton (2-2) worked well as the starter for the Sand Gnats (27-19) going six innings, allowing those two runs.

Matt Wickswat (5-3) started for the Intimidators and worked through four scoreless innings before running into trouble in the fifth inning. In the fifth the bases were loaded with no one out, but Wickswat got a line out to first, a sacrifice fly to right and a line out to third to get our of the inning allowing just one run and keeping the lead. He pitched five innings, allowing one run and won his fourth straight decision. Wickswat is the first Intimidators pitcher to five wins this year.

The bullpen, which has struggled recently, threw four scoreless innings as Drew O'Neil was superb in his three innings and Brandon Kloess worked a scoreless ninth where he struck out the side to win the game 2-1.

The Intimidators will be back in action on Wednesday in game three of the series as Justin Collop takes to the hill, he will be opposed by Armando Rodriguez.
