Werner Reassigned to South Carolina

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and head coach Jason Fitzsimmons announced today that Stephen Werner has been reassigned by the Washington Capitals from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League to South Carolina.

Werner, 22, has split his time this season between the Stingrays and their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears. In 24 games with the Bears, the Chevy Chase, Maryland native has six points (3g-3a) and 26 penalty minutes. Werner was a third round draft pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and was chosen 83rd overall.

With the Stingrays, the 6'1", 210-pound right winger has 15 points (9g-6a) in 24 games.

Come out to the last regular season home game this Saturday night, April 7, as the Stingrays face off against the Texas Wildcatters at 7:05 p.m. It's Fan Appreciation Night with Free Parking and the Team Photo Giveaway, sponsored by Wendy's.

The Kelly Cup will be in town along with members of the 1997 Kelly Cup Championship Team. Celebrate the 10 Year Anniversary of the 1st Kelly Cup Championship and honor those members of the team. The players will be available for autographs and pictures during the second intermission.
