Checkers' Lee Named In Glas Co Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Charlotte Checkers forward Mark Lee is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Mar. 26-Apr. 1, 2007. Lee won the award for Mar. 12-18 and becomes the second two-time winner this season, joining Ryan Kinasewich of Utah.

The 5-foot-11 and 184-pound Lee had three goals, six assists and nine points to help the Checkers go 4-0-0 and clinch a Kelly Cup Playoffs berth for the third year in a row. The last time Charlotte made three straight postseason appearances was when they advanced each of their first five seasons in the league from 1994-98.

The Mount Pearl, Newfoundland native had two power-play goals in a 5-2 win against Pensacola on Mar. 27 and had a goal and two assists in a 6-2 win against the Ice Pilots on Mar. 29. The 22-year-old ended the week registering two assists in back-to-back games, a 4-1 win against Columbia on Mar. 31 and a 3-2 win against Augusta on Apr. 1.

Lee has a 13-game point streak (7g-22a) and leads the Checkers with six game-winning goals, 10 power-play goals, 31 power-play assists, 41 power-play points, 54 assists and 77 points in 56 games. He is fourth in the ECHL in power-play assists while he is tied for sixth in assists and tied for seventh in game-winning goals.

Lee was selected to play in the ECHL All-Star Game, but was not able to participate after being called up to the American Hockey League by Hartford where he had two goals and six penalty minutes in eight games from Dec. 26-Jan. 26.

In his third professional season and under AHL contract to Hartford, Lee had 25 points (6g-19a) and 30 penalty minutes in 36 regular season games and two points (1g-1a) and two penalty minutes in one Kelly Cup Playoff game with Trenton in 2005-06 while also playing in the AHL where he had one goal and 10 penalty minutes in 27 games with Bridgeport. He played his rookie season in the United Hockey League where he had 67 points (20g-47a) and 65 penalty minutes in 78 games with Kansas City in 2004-05.

Before turning professional, Lee played two seasons in the Maritime A Junior Hockey League where he had 63 points (52g-37a) and 84 penalty minutes in 52 games for Amherst. He also played one season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he had 25 points (11g-14a) and 53 penalty minutes in 65 regular season games and seven points (0g-7a) and eight penalty minutes in 11 playoff games for Prince Edward Island.

On behalf of Mark Lee, a case of pucks will be donated to a Charlotte area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, In Glas Co has donated more than 15,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
