Fans' Choice Awards Banquet A Rousing Success

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL this evening held the organization's sixth annual Fans' Choice Awards Banquet before a packed room at the Sovereign Performing Arts Center. The black-tie event, which featured music, a banquet-styled sit down dinner, specially produced videos, and the presentation of the 2006-07 Fans' Choice Awards, included talks from General Manager Gordon Kaye, Head Coach Karl Taylor and Captain Chris Bala.

The evening began with the Top Hat and Tails Award presented by Avenue West Tuxedo who chose John Snowden to wear the stylish hat and tails for the evening. The awards ceremony portion of the evening then kicked off in earnest with Gordon Kaye presenting Vince James, the owner of V&M Towing and a booster of the team who provides invaluable support to the organization, with the General Manager's Award. The remaining Fans' Choice awards were presented as follows: (i) The Unsung Hero presented by Freymoyer's Hotel and Restaurant: Jon Francisco; (ii) The Heart Award presented by Cardiology Associates of West Reading: Malcolm MacMillan; (iii) The Offensive Player of the Year Award presented by Nathaniel Ehrlich, Esq.: Greg Hogeboom; (iv) The Rookie of The Year Award presented by The Works At Wyomissing: Joe Zappala; (v) The Defensive Player of the Year Award presented by V&M Towing: Shawn Germain; (vi) The Ironman Award presented by Hair On The Avenue: Jason Becker; (vii) The Community Service Award presented by United Way of Berks County: Shawn Germain and Joe Zappala; (viii) The Most Valuable Player presented by Auto Spa Of Wyomissing: Chris Bala; and (ix) The Fans' Choice Award presented by the Reading Eagle: Malcolm MacMillan.

The evening concluded with a jersey auction in which the organization raised funds for charity by auctioning off the V&M Towing Warm-Up Sweaters, which the team wore before every home game this season, as well as during the home game against the Dayton Bombers last Friday night.

The Royals kick off the final week of the regular season at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey, where Reading takes on the Trenton Titans this Thursday night (April 5, 7:00 pm). Royals' game night broadcasts can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1240 am (and on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com), beginning thirty minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available for $6.00 per game through the B2 Networks, which can be accessed through the Royals' website.
