Erie SeaWolves News Release
Erie starter Thad Weber tossed a gem on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park, but it was not enough as the SeaWolves fell to the Portland Sea Dogs 1-0.
The games lone run came in the top of the first inning against Weber. Nate Spears led off the game and popped up to foul territory. The ball went off the glove of SeaWolves catcher Andy Bouchie and the error allowed the at-bet to continue. Spears eventually drew a walk. Che Lin followed with a single putting runners on first and second. With one out, Luis Exposito singled home Spears giving Portland a 1-0 lead.
From that point on, Weber was on his game. He followed with seven shutout innings en route to his longest outing of the season. The âWolves turned three double plays in consecutive innings to start the game and tied a season-high with four double plays turned. Weber did not allow a runner passed second base after the third.
Portland starter Jeremy Kehrt was equally as impressive as he shut out the âWolves for six innings, allowing three hits with a walk.
Erie had the tying run on base in every inning following the first. In the ninth, the âWolves had the tying and winning runs on base but could not convert against reliever Jason Rice.
Michael Bertram reached base four times and collected his team-leading 18th multi-hit game.
Weber (3-7) worked a season-high eight innings, allowing an unearned run on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
The SeaWolves have now lost four straight games and have dropped 17 of their last 20.
The âWolves begin a three-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays) on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park...7:05 First Pitch.
