Aeros Stat of the Night:

. The Akron Aeros own the longest active winning streak in baseball at nine straight games. West Tennessee of the Double-A Southern League lost Wednesday, ending a 10-game stretch.

Aerodynamics.

. Wonderful Wednesday. Lefty starter Scott Barnes led the charge for a 2-0 Aeros victory Wednesday night at Canal Park over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Barnes was dominant as he matched up against Fisher Cats starter Luis Perez, who delivered a complete game as well. Akron manufactured the first run against Perez in the bottom of the sixth as a Tim Fedroff infield single, a walk and an RBI base hit by Lonnie Chisenhall made it a 1-0 game. Second baseman Cristo Arnal then threw out a New Hampshire runner at home on a fielder's choice in the eighth and followed that with a run-scoring hit later that inning to provide for the final margin. Barnes (2-5) tied Aeros season-highs with seven shutout innings and 10 strikeouts while allowing just two hits and no walks. Perez (5-6) took the loss despite his fine performance and Akron reliever Bryce Stowell earned his third save.

. Scotty Does Know. It was a career night for Barnes Wednesday at Canal Park as he delivered his finest start of the year and of his brief Double-A career. The 22-year-old Chicopee, Massachusetts native unofficially threw 80 pitches and just 22 balls in the victory after entering the contest with a 7.17 ERA. It was his third shutout start of 2010 as he also recorded five inning no-hit outings on April 14th at Trenton and May 18th at Altoona. Barnes was an eighth round selection by the San Francisco Giants in the June 2008 Draft and the Cleveland Indians acquired Barnes in a trade last July for former Aero Ryan Garko.

. Stellar Stowell. The Aeros relief staff has been phenomenal over the past month and the recently promoted Stowell is a big reason why. He provided two shutout innings again Wednesday in the win over the Fisher Cats and now has three saves in his past four relief appearances. He has yet to allow a run in 13 innings pitched over seven games for Akron since arriving on May 20th, and has been one of the best relievers in the Indians organization this season. Combined between Class A Kinston and the Aeros, the 2008 draftee out of the University of California, Irvine holds a 0.94 ERA and 56 strikeouts in just 38.1 innings.

. Number Nine, Number Nine. Akron continues to climb up the Western Division standings thanks to the recent winning streak thanks to a dominating pitching staff. Over the course of this nine-game stretch since May 31st, Aeros pitchers have combined for a 2.39 ERA, a 0.99 WHIP, a .191 batting average against and 80 strikeouts in 79 innings pitched. Relievers have been tremendous as well, permitting just three earned runs total during the streak for a phenomenal 0.89 ERA.

. Thirsty Thursday. Infielder Jason Kipnis joined the Akron roster today from Class A Kinston but will not be appearing in tonight's game. He was Cleveland's second-round selection in the June 2009 Draft. A win tonight would mark the third straight sweep for the Aeros and a 10th consecutive victory, moving just one game behind the franchise record set in June 2002.
