Environmental Awareness Fair Returns To Trenton Next Week

The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, will host the Fourth Annual EarthShare New Jersey Environmental Awareness Fair at Waterfront Park on Wednesday, June 16 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. The Thunder vs. Altoona (Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates) game that night is scheduled for 7:05 PM with a Recyclable Reusable Tote Bag giveaway for the first 2,000 fans ages 18 and over courtesy of Mercer County Clean Communities and the Mercer County Improvement Authority. The Environmental Awareness Fair will feature exhibits and demonstrations from EarthShare NJ member organizations on the "approach" at Waterfront Park. EarthShare member organizations include: Clean Ocean Action, GreenFaith, Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey, South Branch Watershed Association, and more. Eco-friendly businesses will also be present to share products and services with fans. The approach is the stone and brick plaza in the front of the stadium, near the two main entrances and ticket windows. "The Thunder are fortunate to be a gathering place for the people of New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania and we appreciate opportunities to create awareness about important issues," said Thunder General Manager Will Smith. "Educating people about the environment and environmentally-friendly products and services is something we are happy to continue with Earth Share of NJ for a fourth year."

EarthShare New Jersey (ESNJ) has been supporting and raising funds for qualified environmental charities across the state since 1994. ESNJ corporate partners include PhillipsVan Heusen, Wal-Mart, JP Morgan Chase, American Express and many more. The partnership includes awareness programs, volunteer opportunities, and environmental workplace contribution programs/options. ESNJ currently represents 24 local and 38 national environmental organizations.

The Trenton Thunder have made a commitment to use their place in the public eye to raise awareness for environmental issues. This year, the Thunder continued the "Thunder Clean Water Pledge" program done in conjunction with the NJ Department of Environmental Protection for its fourth year. This initiative rewarded students for "pledging" to live in a more environmentally sound way.

The Thunder are currently on the road in Reading, PA and will return to Trenton to face the Binghamton Met (NY Mets) in a three game weekend series starting on Friday, June 11.
