Kane County Cougars News Release
Peoria, IL-The Kane County Cougars won their fourth straight game against the Peoria Chiefs, notched their second shutout of the year and moved a season-high three games above .500, claiming a 4-0 final Thursday night at O'Brien Field. Ryan Webb blanked the Chiefs for six innings to earn his first win since he beat the same squad May 9th. Jose Pineda had two hits, including a booming two-run homer in the fourth innng off the league's ERA-leader Sean Gallagher. Webb and Gallagher were locked in a pitcher's duel through three innings before Kane County broke through in the fourth. Cliff Pennington and Javier Herrera singled, and Eddie Kim roped a run-scoring base hit for a 1-0 score. After Herrera moved to third on a double play, Pineda crushed a Gallagher fastball well beyond the fence in left for a 3-0 score.
That became plenty of offense for the Cougars' trio of Webb, Shawn Martinez and J.R. Pickens. Webb (4-7) went six innings, allowed just three hits, walked one and fanned three. Martinez made his Cougars debut with two solid relief innings. Reliever Mike Jones replaced Gallagher (8-3) for the eighth and gave up a sacrifice fly to Kim to make it 4-0. Pickens tossed a perfect ninth.
The Cougars (9-6) head to Lansing for a four-game series with the Lugnuts. Game one is Friday night at 6:05 CDT. Mike Rogers (5-5, 4.40) toes the rubber against left-hander Chi-Hung Cheng (3-4, 3.20) for Lansing.
