Lucas Activated, Begins Suspension

Burlington, IA (July 7, 2005) - Just before last night's game against South Bend, the Kansas City Royals activated Burlington Bees IF Ed Lucas from the disabled list. Lucas was on the DL since June 25th after suffering a broken nose during a bench-clearing brawl with Beloit on June 24th. Lucas had successful surgery on June 29th and has returned to baseball activities. Lucas won't be available for game action until at least Saturday night as he began serving his three-game suspension stemming from his ejection from the game on the 24th. Lucas was the on-deck hitter when Pete Maestrales got hit with a pitch and charged the mound. Lucas was blindsided while trying to peel players off Maestrales on the bottom of the pile.

The Bees wrap up their four-game series with the South Bend Silver Hawks at Community Field at 7:00 tonight. The gates will open at 6:00 for a Fat Tuesdays Thirsty Thursday featuring 2-for-$3 specials on all 20oz. bottles of Pepsi products and 12oz. cans of beer. The first 500 fans in attendance will also receive a free set of the 2005 Burlington Bees baseball cards sponsored by Happy Joe's and Chevrolet with a special thanks to Omni Photography.
