G League Cleveland Charge

Weaver's Triple-Double Helps Lift Canton over Reno

April 7, 2013 - NBA G League (G League)
Cleveland Charge News Release

Kyle Weaver compiled the first triple-double in Canton Charge history in the team's 109-94 victory over the Reno Bighorns on Saturday night. The win ends Canton's season with a franchise-best 30-20 record, while Reno finishes their season at 16-34.

All eight Charge players in uniform got in the scoring column in the first quarter, which helped keep pace with seven lead changes and five ties. Canton was able to pull ahead 25-21 thanks in part to a defensive effort that limited Reno to hitting just 9-of-26 shots from the field for 35%.

The Charge offense exploded in the second quarter, as the visitors assisted on 11 of their 17 made field goals in shooting 70% from the floor in the period and outscored the Bighorns 39-29. Canton took a 64-50 lead into the half, with Antoine Agudio and Arinze Onuaku leading the way with 12 points each.

The visitors maintained a double-digit lead for most of the third quarter and led 77-66 before Reno made quick 8-2 run to cut it to a two possession game at 79-74 with 1:40 left. Jorge Gutierrez then scored a quick five points for the Charge and a split pair of Bighorns free throws made the score 84-75 Canton heading into the fourth.

The Charge lead never dipped below five in the fourth, as they held the Bighorns to 36% shooting in the final quarter and outscored them 25-19. Weaver completed his feat with 42.3 seconds left in the game when he dished out his 10th assist on an 18-foot Travis Franklin jump shot. Canton finished the season 4-0 at the Reno Events Center after sweeping this weekend's series and gaining a pair of wins during the 2013 D-League Showcase in January.

Seven Charge players scored in double figures, and Weaver finished with 16 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, two blocks and a steal in 42 minutes. Onuaku notched his 20th double-double of the year in scoring 19 points and grabbing 13 boards with a block in 30 minutes. Gutierrez netted 13 points with six assists in 32 minutes, and Ryan Rossiter had 15 points and five boards in 29 minutes. Micheal Eric scored 12 points with seven rebounds in just 15 minutes of relief off the bench.

Reno had dueling 30-point scorers in both Memphis Grizzlies assignment Tony Wroten and center Darnell Jackson. Wroten had 30 on 11-of-25 shooting with eight assists in 37 minutes. Jackson finished with 30 on 13-of-18 shooting and grabbed six rebounds and four steals in 36 minutes. Ronald Dupree added a double-double of 12 points and 13 boards with six assists in 38 minutes. The Charge are now 3-0 all-time against the Bighorns.

Canton is guaranteed to host at least one game ("Game A") in the first round of the playoffs at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on a date to be announced, against a yet-to-be determined opponent. The announcement of playoff seeding, game dates and matchups will be made by the NBA D-League office on Sunday, April 7 after league-wide regular season games are complete Saturday night.
